Design Handoff Checklist

A thorough handoff prevents "why does this look different in development?" disputes. Share this checklist with your client at handoff:

How to Structure Discovery Pricing

Many designers skip discovery and go straight to screens — this is the primary cause of redesigns and scope creep. Discovery is where you earn the right to design confidently. Price it properly:

Discovery as a sales tool: A paid discovery phase signals serious clients (low-commitment clients walk away). It also positions you as a strategic partner, not just a screen-pusher — which justifies higher visual design rates.

Scope Creep Phrases to Watch For

These are common client requests that signal scope creep. Address each immediately with a scope note:

Client saysWhat they meanYour response
"Just a few more screens"New flows not in scopeQuote additional screens at ₹[X]/screen
"Can you make it feel more premium?"Direction change after approvalClarify: this changes the approved direction — additional revision round billed at ₹[X]/hr
"Can you also do the marketing site?"Entirely new projectHappy to — I'll send a separate proposal
"The developer wants it in XD/Sketch"File format changeFile conversion is ₹[X] extra (time-intensive)
"Can you sit with the dev team for a week?"Ongoing support not scopedOngoing support is ₹[X]/hour, minimum 4 hours
